Rosthern Ambulance donated $21,500, which was raised from their annual Charitable Golf Tournament, which was held last June, to the Rosthern Hospital Foundation.
Walter P. Dutchak of North Battleford, owner of the Rosthern Ambulance Service, presented the donation to the foundation last week at Rosthern Hospital.
Dutchak said the donation was another record donation, with $18,000 given to the foundation in 2008 and $11,500 was given in 2007.
“Since the tournament started six years ago, a total of $64,000 has been raised and donated back to the community,” said Dutchak.
The tournament was an informal event when it was first held in 2001 and when it became a formal tournament in 2004, it raised just $1,000, which has increased from there.
Money given to the hospital has been used for the purchase of new hospital beds and other needed items.
Funds raised to date from the tournament have helped complete the purchase of hospitals beds; two new cardiac defibrillators, new cardiac monitors and three new oxygen machines for hospital rooms.
Dutchak said credit for the success of the tournament has to be given to the golfers, who participate in the event each year. As well, he credited the many sponsors who supported Rosthern Ambulance on this event and many volunteers who helped out as well.
Major sponsors from last year’s tourney include ZOLL Medical Canada, Hague Agencies, Valley Trenching LTD., Michael Androsoff C.A. and 650 CKOM.
Rosthern Hospital Foundation is a non-profit fundraising organization that is dedicated to the purchase of capital equipment for the hospital to replace aging equipment or add vitally needed new equipment that cannot be obtained from the usual funding sources.
The foundation was established as a way for funds to be raised and spent specifically for the Rosthern Hospital, allowing donations and bequests to be used for the Rosthern Hospital and not elsewhere in the health region.
Dutchak said the annual Rosthern Ambulance and Rosthern Hospital Foundation Charity Golf Tournament is now the largest tournament of the year for the Rosthern Valley Golf Course.
He said that this year’s tournament will be held June 5, which includes 18 holes of golf, breakfast, supper, prizes for each golfer and chance at other prizes from draws and hole-in-one prizes.
