Rosthern residents are urged to get behind the town’s bid to become a Kraft Hockeyville community.

If you want Rosthern to host Hockeyville 2012 and have a chance to see an NHL game played in the Jubilee Sports Centre, here are a few tips you can do to help make it happen.
Andrew Crowe, recreation and community manager for the Town of Rosthern, said “we have to get the message out why hockey is important to us” to let people across Canada know why to vote for Rosthern over other communities.
To date many people have been telling Crowe why Rosthern should be Hockeyville 2012, but he said they should be sending in their stories to the Kraft Hockeyville website, www.krafthockeyville.cbc.ca.
He said people can send in photographs showing off the town’s “community spirit and passion for hockey” or make a video showing the town’s love of hockey.
Other things people can do and submit include creating their own Hockeyville logo for the town, create a new cheer, write a jingle promoting the event, or maybe organize a community event that can be taped and shown to promote the community.
Nicole Lerat, CAO for the Town of Rosthern, said those who no not have a computer, but who would like to tell their story to Canadians, can bring in their story and the town will have those stories added online.
A major event promoting Rosthern’s chance is happening next week, Saturday, January 21, with a Fort Carlton Hockey League game between the Rosthern Wheat Kings and the Hague Royals.
That day happens to be Hockey Day in Saskatchewan and many other activities are planned for Rosthern that day to help promote the Kraft Hockeyville project.
Anyone who wants to help that day or with the overall project can contact Crowe at (306) 232-4839, fax him at (306) 232-5638 or email him directly at andrew.rosthern@sasktel.net.
More details are found at the town’s website: www.rosthern.com.
In addition to hosting a pre-season NHL hockey game, the town has a chance to win $100,000 in arena upgrades, as well as the possibility of winning an early bird prize of $10,000 in hockey equipment for the community’s minor hockey association.
The announcement of the top 15 communities to advance to the voting round will be made March 3, during a broadcast of Hockey Night in Canada, and after that, the voting round begins.
