Cpl. Natalie Forcier, who is originally from St. Isidore de Bellevue, is heading for the Canadian base in Afghanistan.
Her mother, Ida, said her daughter is expected to leave some time this month for a “six- month-long” tour of duty.
Forcier expects her daughter will be posted “behind the wire”, on the United Nations Forces base in Kandahar, where Cpl. Forcier will be serving as a medic with the Canadian Armed Forces.
Cpl. Forcier graduated from Ecole St. Isidore in 2002 and joined the Armed Forces in November of that year when she was 18.
She trained in Winnipeg at 17 Wing and has been waiting for action for the past five years.
Last month she returned to her school, where she was honoured by the community, including receiving tributes from various people. She was presented with a guardian angel pin and received a blessing on behalf of the church.
Forcier said there will be a special ceremony for Natalie at the school in the fall when she returns from her tour.
